Karen
Larmeu Stakelum is a native New Orleanian who now lives in Covington,
Louisiana. Karen’s art career started in the mid 1980s when
she worked as a graphic artist and set designer for a local theater
troupe. For many years, she created posters, stage sets, murals and
advertising materials for productions of the United Theatre Artists.
In the late 1980s, Karen shifted her focus to primarily painting with
transparent watercolors on paper and that medium has remained her
passion.
Karen is a member
of the St. Tammany Art Association and has served on their Exhibition
Committee. Karen is also a member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society
and is currently the International Show Chair and Artists’
Liaison for that organization. She served as president of LWS from
2004 to 2006.
Karen’s
watercolors have won many awards throughout the years and can be
found displayed in public as well as private collections.
